Consistent Scoring

I want to give credit where it is due. The Hornets have a few studs on offense, including Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward, and Devonte’ Graham. However, some on the team are not able to effectively score.

Hayward may lead the Hornets, but he cannot do it all himself. Others on the team need to start pulling their own weight. With the lack of consistent scoring, the Hornets are currently the 23rd ranked team in scoring per game with 107.8.

Another stat to look at is the number of shots the Hornets make per game. The Hornets make the least amount of buckets per game with 37.3. This is something that must be improved!

One of the biggest letdowns of the season so far has been the consistency of Graham. Fans saw something unexpected last season when he went off for a career year, but for some reason, he has not been able to replicate last season.

Since last season, Graham has dropped his field goal percentage to 34%, where he was shooting 38% in the 2019-20 season. While his field goal percentage has fallen, Graham has also dropped his three-point percentage.

While Graham has been struggling, the Hornets have still been thriving with their excellent passing. The Hornets currently average the most assists per game, so the team manages to find open players.

Moreover, the Hornets’ pace has caused them to take some bad shots in transition. Players like Caleb Martin has suffered from this. Martin was shooting the three-ball well at the start of the season, but he is now shooting 24% from deep.

The Hornets seem to play well on the floor when Ball is in, and a result of this has been because of his nice passing on offense. While the starting lineup is not going to change for a while, the Hornets should find him more minutes.
