Defending Three-Point Shots

Defending the three has been an issue that has haunted the Hornets for their past five games. In the Hornets past five, they have given up 15+ made threes; Charlotte has only won one of those five games.

It’s scary to think that the Hornets have allowed 92 three-pointers in their last five games. The NBA is a three-point shooting league now, which means they should also defend from deep.

When you look at the number of threes that the Hornets have given up, you can also see how many less they have made. While this does not impact defense, it’s still bad when you’re being outshot from three every game.

I want to relate this to my last point about rebounding. Remember when I said the Hornets got a lot better at defending in the paint? Well, this has caused them to give up a ridiculous amount of threes per game. This is because the Hornets are focusing too much on the paint.

With the Hornets’ lack of defensive rebounds, teams can get open and knock down triples. This kind of defensive mindset needs to be changed by Coach Borrego ASAP if he wishes for the Hornets to improve.

The Charlotte Hornets have a long month ahead, and the team will need to fix these issues if they want to have a shot at the playoffs. If they do, I have faith that this team will finally break their playoff drought.
