Charlotte Hornets: Thumbs up and thumbs down in loss vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Thumbs Down: Defensive Breakdowns & Big Runs
In their game against the Miami Heat, the Charlotte Hornets allowed two big runs which nearly cost them the game.
Once again the Hornets gave up a big run, but unlike last game, they were not able to recover. The Hornets scored the first four points of the game, and they looked like they could keep up with the 76ers, but unfortunately, Philadelphia had other plans.
Before the 76ers were able to go on their big run, LaMelo Ball hit a three to go up 7 to 5 with 8:30 left in the first quarter. The 76ers then ripped off a 25 to 6 run to finish the first quarter, putting the Hornets in a 17 point deficit at the end of the first. Over the last 8:30 in the first quarter, the Hornets only scored 6 points.
While the second quarter wasn’t as bad as the first, it certainly was not a great quarter for the Hornets. The Hornets allowed the 76ers to score 34 points in the second quarter, entering halftime with a 22 point deficit. The Hornets allowed the 76ers to score 64 points in the first half.
This has been a continuous problem for the Hornets, and one that they need to figure out if they intend to make the playoffs.
