The Charlotte Hornets’ reserves stepped up in scoring to help defeat the Houston Rockets.

In order to win games in the NBA, a team is going to need strong play from their bench players, and that is exactly what the Charlotte Hornets got tonight. The good play from the bench was led by Miles Bridges and Malik Monk, who had 19 and 14 points respectively.

In total, the Hornets’ bench scored 48 points, whereas the Houston Rockets’ bench was only able to score 38 points, a 10 point margin in the Hornets’ favor.

To put this into perspective, the Rockets starting lineup could only muster up 56 points in the game, which means that the bench players for the Hornets nearly scored as many points as the starting lineup did for the Rockets.

When a bench is able to complete this well, it allows their own team’s starting lineup to rest on the bench with confidence, knowing that they will still have the lead when the coach puts them back in the game.

Let’s hope that the Hornets bench can continue on this trajectory for the remainder of the season. If they are, they may just find themselves in the playoffs.
