Kahlil Whitney signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Charlotte Hornets after going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Kahlil Whitney was a top-15 recruit but only played in 231 minutes across 18 games at Kentucky last season. He began the season in the rotation but fell out of favor and out of John Calipari’s rotation but after some struggles on the floor.

Whitney is an explosive athlete at 6 feet, 7 inches tall. He is a big-time leaper and should be able to play the 4, but he would need to improve as a rebounder. Whitney covers a lot of the floor with his long strides and finishes well on the open floor.

Whitney has a wide defensive stance, and stays set in said stance, but needs to improve on defensive fundamentals. He doesn’t create a lot of blocks and steals.

Whitney will need to add strength and fill out his body; he can’t handle a lot of contact as of now. Whitney will also need to improve playing off the ball and in the half-court offense.

Many think it was in Whitney’s best interest to transfer instead of declaring for the draft. He has a lot of raw talent and untapped potential. It will be intriguing to see what the Swarm staff can get from him. Whitney will look to prove his doubters wrong by improving on his flaws and earning a spot on an NBA roster.
