The Charlotte Hornets select Day’Ron Sharpe (UNC) in the first round.

With a projected late lottery pick, the Hornets could look at upgrading the center position. Following this season, both Cody Zeller and Bismack Biyombo will become unrestricted free agents.

If Charlotte wants to upgrade their frontcourt, picking a local kid from North Carolina could do it. Day’Ron Sharpe has shown some promise off the bench for the Tar Heels. While he may not play big minutes in games, he still finds a way to be productive for his team.

Sharpe has great size with his 6’11 height and 7’0 wingspan. He’s an ideal rebounder and shot-blocker that can help in the paint. His size also allows him to be an effective screener on offense, which he excelled in.

So far this season, Sharpe has averaged 9.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the floor.

Sharpe needs to improve his shooting from outside of the paint, but he’s got the ability to help in other areas. Another aspect of Sharpe’s game that needs to improve is his free throw shot, he’s currently shooting 52% from the line.
