Terry the Closer

Among players with 100 or more field goal attempts in the 4th quarter and overtime this season, Terry Rozier is number 1 in eFG% at 64%. That’s not just good—you could argue he’s been one of the best late-game scorers in the league.

Little wing

Per Cleaning the Glass, Terry played 66% of his minutes at point guard during his tenure with the Boston Celtics. That number is just 10% this season, with the vast majority of his minutes spent playing shooting guard. He also has a staggering +25.6 on/off in the 102 minutes he’s played small forward. His 128.4 points per 100 scoring attempts are in the 90th percentile for wings as well. It’s been clearer than ever that he’s most comfortable as a score-first wing with limited playmaking responsibility.

Varied Terry

Last year, Rozier made his name as a catch-and-shoot threat. So far, his bag of tricks seems much deeper. While he’s still one of only three players in the NBA shooting 50% or better on four or more catch and shoot three-pointers per game, he’s also in the 88th percentile for eFG% in pull-up shooting (54.8%) among players who take at least one of those shots per game. Last season, his eFG% on such shots was 44.3%, landing him in the 44th percentile.

Rozier’s pick and roll burden has undoubtedly been reduced with LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward on the roster, but he’s improved there as well to the tune of .99 points per possession (77th percentile), up from his .79 last season (39th percentile).

Rozier’s mid-range shooting has also been on fire at 51%. That’s among the elite 98th percentile for wings this year and by far the best of his career. In fact, he’s never shot 40% or better from that range, and those career-high percentages extend to all three levels (58% at the rim—still below average positionally, but a career-high nonetheless).

Perhaps Rozier’s most dramatic improvement has been on drives. Last season, among players with at least five drive attempts per game, his field goal percentage was in the 14th percentile at 41%. This year, he’s in the 77th percentile at 53.8%.
