College Stats/Awards

Cameron Thomas enters the 2021 NBA Draft after spending one season at LSU. During the 2020-21 season, Thomas started and played in 29 games, and averaged 23 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 40.6% from the field.

Primary Strengths

Thomas is a scorer. His scoring ability looks so effortless with the smoothness and skill that he plays with. Thomas can shoot the three, from the mid-range, and take it down the lane to score in a variety of ways. He is solid at creating free throw opportunities for himself. Thomas handles the ball well and also moves well off the ball.

Primary Weaknesses

For all of his scoring ability, Thomas needs to shoot at a more consistent rate and get better at his shot selection. He’s a great playmaker for himself but doesn’t get others involved in the action; only averaging 1.4 assists in his lone season with the Tigers. Thomas can be super focused on offense and lapse on the defensive end.

Draft Projection

Thomas is an offensively skilled combo guard. He’s not considered to be a true point guard but undersized to play the off-guard position. The potential is there for Thomas to grow to become a tremendous contributor to an NBA team. He’ll likely come off the board towards the end of the lottery picks in the first round or shortly thereafter.

The NBA announced on February 26 that for this draft only, all college players must declare their eligibility, regardless of class, if they wish to enter the draft. The NBA Draft Combine will be held on June 21–27. NCAA players have 10 days after the end of the combine to withdraw from the draft.

The draft lottery will be held on Tuesday, June 22 on ESPN. The 2021 NBA Draft will be held on Thursday, July 29 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The draft will be televised on ABC (first-round only) and ESPN.
