Charlotte Hornets: 4 takeaways from 2020-21 season
By Wyatt Stroud
Miles Bridges had the best season of his career in 2020-21 and looks to build on that heading into 2021-22.
When injuries started to plague the Charlotte Hornets this season, Miles Bridges was looked at as one of the guys who had to step up and fill certain voids in the lineup. Saying that Bridges did just that would be an understatement.
Since Gordon Hayward went down with a sprained foot in a win against the Indiana Pacers on April 2, Bridges led the team in scoring at 20.3 PPG to go along with 6.8 RPG and 2.8 APG. His shooting percentages have been even more impressive at .516/.436/.833 over that span.
Bridges, who has made Twitter explode multiple times from some of his jaw-dropping dunks this season, has proved that he has plenty of game beyond his athleticism. Dan Dakich of ESPN famously tweeted that Bridges “has no game” a few years back and took a lot of heat from basketball fans for the comment.
Needless to say, Dakich was off by a mile. We have seen Bridges turn the corner this season and there is no reason to believe that it was a fluke. After a stellar month in April, which was arguably the best month of his career, Bridges entered into the NBA’s health and safety protocols on May 4 and was forced to miss six straight games for the Hornets.
How did Bridges respond after the time off? He posted 30 points, five rebounds, and five three-pointers while shooting 57.1 percent from the field in 34 minutes off the bench on May 15 vs. the New York Knicks.
