Charlotte Hornets: Identifying the 3 biggest offseason needs
The Charlotte Hornets need to improve the defensive from the wing positions
This may come as a surprise to some people considering the wing talent that the Charlotte Hornets roster has, but there is very little depth at this position and it was exposed very often by teams throughout the season.
When the Hornets got hit harshly by the injury bug, the number of lengthy wings that the Hornets had to throw at the other team’s best scorers dwindled, and Charlotte paid for it. PJ Washington, Miles Bridges, Gordon Hayward, Cody Martin, and Josh McDaniels is not a bad wing/forward rotation, but someone who more fits the role as a wing defender would be a good fit for the Hornets and could immensely help them out throughout the season next year and into the playoffs, should they so qualify.
Ideally, this player can also shoot the three-ball or become a secondary creator but even if not, depending on other roster decisions, there should be enough scoring on the roster to where that would not matter as much.
Charlotte could use the draft or free agency to fill this hole. In free agency, a Justise Winslow or Garrett Temple would add a veteran presence in addition to fitting the bill as a wing defender. In the draft, Michigan State’s Aaron Henry would be a fantastic target in the second round. With their lottery selection in the first round, the Hornets could potentially target Stanford’s Ziaire Williams and Tennessee’s Keon Johnson to fill this role.
