Nerlens Noel

Nerlens Noel has not been the most attractive free agent to teams as of late, but he’s proved a lot this season.

When the New York Knicks lost Mitchell Robinson to injury, Noel stepped up and became a defensive anchor in the paint. During the 2020-21 regular season, Noel averaged 5.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 2.2 blocks per game. His blocks per game average were the best in his career.

Hornets fans will easily remember the impact he made against Charlotte on May 15. Noel finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, and five blocked shots.

Noel might not be the most attractive offensive center, but his defense and rebounding abilities would significantly help the Hornets. Even with his game being limited to inside the arc, he’s still managed to shoot 61% or better over the past two seasons.

I believe Noel is an upgrade over Zeller and Biyombo, and that’s why he should be targeted. Charlotte has become a great passing team, and I’m sure Noel would see an increase in offensive touches and scoring opportunities.

Noel could fit in well with what Borrego is trying to do, and the Hornets should have a chance to talk with him since he’ll be an unrestricted free agent. Charlotte could even get him to sign on a good deal.

Noel has been in the playoffs for three consecutive seasons. Borrego could push the Hornets to go after someone who adds playoff experience to a current Charlotte roster whose primary rotation players lack playoff experience.
