Charlotte Hornets: How the Suns success can serve as a blueprint
By Jason Huber
Make sure the right head coach is in place
James Borrego in my opinion has been a very good coach for the Hornets since being hired in
2018. He has developed talent well and the team has exceeded expectations when they weren’t supposed to be very good.
However, a time will come, probably soon, when Kupchak has to decide on whether Borrego can be a championship-caliber coach?
The Suns had six different head coaches from 2013-19 before hiring Monty Williams, who guided them to the Finals.
Borrego has to improve on in-game decision-making and must get Charlotte to the playoffs next season. If the Hornets don’t make the playoffs or underwhelm in 2022, it’s likely Borrego won’t be getting a contract extension.
