Should the Charlotte Hornets consider adding Lonzo or LiAngelo Ball?
The Charlotte Hornets already have one of the Ball brothers in LaMelo Ball, so why not add another member or two from the family?
In all seriousness, Lonzo Ball’s time in New Orleans appears to be over as he is currently a free agent. The 23-year-old product out of UCLA began his career with the Los Angeles Lakers organization, before being sent over in a blockbuster package deal to the New Orleans Pelicans, all for the prized possession of Anthony Davis.
Now, it’s being reported by The Athletics Shams Charania that New Orleans has no plans to make Lonzo a part of their future, which is strange, considering how far the oldest Ball brother has come. Ball had the best season of his career with the Pelicans in 2020-21, averaging 14.6 points per game – much higher than his 11.7 points per game career average.
So far, both the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls have entered the Lonzo Ball sweepstakes, showing an early interest in the young point guard. It would be vital for the Hornets to become the third party involved to acquire Lonzo in this free agency period.
The Hornets already have a solid young core of players that have made huge strides in the league. LaMelo, Miles Bridges, P.J. Washington, and the list goes on and on when looking at players who aren’t close to hitting their ceiling. Adding Lonzo this off-season would be one of the smartest things the Hornets organization has ever done.
Everyone wants to see the Ball brothers play together, and there isn’t a better organization on the come-up than the Hornets. Charlotte is already on the brink of being a must-watch team in the league, and with the addition of Lonzo, you would see a whole new world of fans craving Hornets basketball 24/7.
Now let’s talk about LiAngelo Ball here. Obviously, it would be a stretch at this point to see him even make a league roster. However, all three of the Ball brothers are planning to team up together in the Drew League, which LiAngelo couldn’t be more excited about.
“I’m going to be playing in the Drew League with my brothers. That’s going to be exciting. That’s going to be a show. Damn near our whole high school team, for real. Me, Melo, Zo, Eli (Scott). (Onyeka Okongwu) might play. It’s going to be fun, just all grown up now and coming back together so I’m excited to see what’s going to happen but I know it’s going to be a show for sure.” LiAngelo Ball said in an interview during his house tour with SLAM.
If LiAngelo puts on a show with his brothers and other members from the 2015-16 Chino Hills basketball team, then it’s hard to see him not getting another chance at least for an NBA G-League team.
