Ball was recently spotted working out in Hornets gear in the Charlotte facility in an Instagram post by Devonte’ Graham which had a lot of people buzzing.
Ball has had an uneventful professional career so far after his Lithuanian stint with LaMelo. He went undrafted in 2018, in 2020 he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder G-League affiliate, however, he never played for them as the league shut down three days later due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In December of 2021, he signed a 10-day contract with the Detroit Pistons but was waived shortly after, never logging any minutes due to an ankle injury.
It’s safe to say that this will be the first real opportunity the middle Ball brother will get in his journey to make an NBA roster. Hopefully, for his sake, he can make the most of it.
There should be no expectation that Ball actually makes the team. The summer league roster should be used more wisely than this but like the Milwaukee Bucks signing Thanasis Antetokoumpo to keep his brother Giannis Antetokoumpo happy, this is more than likely just a move to keep LaMelo happy.
That said, there’s no reasonable reason to think that LiAngelo will be a big-time contributor for the Hornets. There is also a very slim chance that LaMelo plays in the summer league as he continues to heal and transform his body.
The Las Vegas Summer League starts on August 8.
