With the 2021 NBA Draft less than a week away, we can start to finalize big boards and zero in at prospects who make sense for the Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte found their star of the future in 2021 Rookie of the Year award winner LaMelo Ball in 2020, now the Hornets will look to add to the young core they have built with hopes of competing in the NBA playoffs.

When approaching this year’s draft, the big question needs to be, “who fits LaMelo Ball’s timeline?” Even though he looked experienced beyond his years last season, he is still just 19 years old and the best is yet to come. The Hornets need to put players around Ball that he can grow and compete with for years to come.

We know Charlotte’s needs, defense, scoring, and overall depth; this is a draft class that is rich with those desired traits. Most of the discussion has been centered around who and what the Hornets should take 11, but what about who they should avoid?

By this point in the draft cycle, most people have a general idea of who they want their team to draft and who they don’t. Here are three prospects who are being considered potential lottery picks that Charlotte should stay away from if they fall to 11.
