With the NBA Draft days away, the Charlotte Hornets will need to be ready to select another stud that could improve their roster. With a lot of luck in previous drafts, Charlotte could be in store for another great selection.

The Hornets may have already found a gem in this year’s draft. One of the best prospects Charlotte grab at the 11th spot is Kai Jones. Jones has worked out for the Hornets multiple times, as well as been showcased on the Hornets’ social media accounts.

Jones is a 6’11 forward who played for the Texas Longhorns. Last season, Jones averaged 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 58% from the field.

What really makes Jones stand out is his abilities as an athlete. He initially participated in track and field before basketball. While he has a lot to still learn about the game, Jones has proved he’s a threat when running in transition.

Just like Miles Bridges, Jones would be another weapon for LaMelo Ball in transition.

His abilities as an athlete allow him to maneuver around defenders and also go up easily for alley-oop attempts. Watching his highlights, it’s clear that the right point guard could make him an elite fastbreak threat.

Jones must still work on his shooting, but his 7’1 wingspan and speed make him a Giannis Antetkoumbo type player when driving to the rim. However, there’s still a variety of finishing moves he can learn when attacking the rim with layups.

Jones is still finding his way on defense, but his ability to jump and block shots is great. If the Hornets do not re-sign Bismack Biyombo, then Jones would have one of the longest wingspans on the roster.

Another great reason the Hornets should select Jones is because of his versatility in the frontcourt. Jones’ size and speed make him an ideal player to play power forward and center. If the Hornets want more size at the center position instead of PJ Washington, then Jones is their guy.

There’s a lot for Jones to learn in Charlotte but he is still the best selection for the Hornets’ 11th pick. If the Hornets are seeking to re-sign Devonte’ Graham or Malik Monk, Jones is the obvious pick.

No matter what the Hornets do in the draft, Charlotte will enter free agency with decent cap space and a nice draft pick. Fans may be in for a show this upcoming season.
