Charlotte Hornets acquires Christian Wood and a late first-round pick from Houston

This is an interesting one to really sit down and think about. With the Houston Rockets seemingly in full rebuild mode, they might be interested in moving up to acquire more lottery talent and younger pieces, and the 11th pick could be the perfect spot.

As Charlotte looks to add young elite talent around Ball, Christian Wood may fit the bill. Wood is only 25 yet seems like a seasoned vet as he’s already played for seven different teams, including a stint in Charlotte. Wood burst onto the scene in 2020 with the Detroit Pistons and followed it up with a solid season in Houston where he averaged 21 points in 9.6 rebounds.

Essentially the Hornets would be expediting their rebuild by upgrading from PJ Washington to the more proven Wood at the cost of 13 draft spots. At the 23rd pick, you still are looking at the likes of Jones, Williams, Jaden Springer, and possibly Isaiah Jackson.

Depending on how you view Washington and Wood, you would either love this trade or would think it’s not worth it as Washington is younger and has the potential to surpass Wood.

Either way, the Rockets would get a younger piece in Washington to team up with their 2nd overall pick. Whether that’s Evan Mobley or Jalen Green I think Washington would fit perfectly. Charlotte would be able to move Miles Bridges to the starting power forward spot which I think he deserves, and they get a borderline all-star at the power forward or center position in Wood.
