Charlotte Hornets send Gordon Hayward to Golden State for the 7th overall pick

In this event, I would only entertain a trade-up if G-League Ignite player Jonathan Kuminga fell to 7 which is starting to look very possible. Kuminga is a player with true star potential and is the type of player the Hornets should be looking for as they look to find their second star. He’s also very raw and since the Golden State Warriors are in a win-now mode and are exhausting all options for veteran pieces they may not be looking to bring in a project like Kuminga.

The Hornets make a lot of sense to complete a deal like this. Even though Gordon Hayward just signed with the team last offseason, Charlotte could find themselves in a unique position where they could get a player who could have been a top 3 pick, if not the number 1 overall pick just last season, yes, even over Ball.

The Warriors get off the Andrew Wiggins contract which Charlotte should have no problem taking in for the next two years and receive Jordan Poole as a young fluff piece. So Charlotte comes out with a potential future star in Kuminga, a younger vet forward in Wiggins who is overpaid but does have a desirable skill set for this Charlotte team, and they also bring in a sharpshooter in Jordan Poole.

The Warriors bring in a reliable shot-creator in Hayward who can be a great third-scoring option behind Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. With the 11th pick, they can likely pick up one of Davion Mitchell or Corey Kispert, maybe even both with the 14th pick. Players who lack upside but can step in and be immediate role players for that team.
