The Charlotte Hornets have selected Scottie Lewis with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft. This should conclude the Hornets action for draft night as Mitch Kupchak and the Charlotte staff have brought in four rookies including Lewis to add to their young core.

Lewis measures 6’5, 190 pounds and is a defensive wing player that the Hornets are taking a shot on late in the draft. Lewis’s box score stats don’t jump off the page as he averaged just 7.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. However, Lewis is a stout defender, averaging 1 block and 1.6 steals per game.

Lewis joins James Bouknight, Kai Jones, and JT Thor as the Hornets 2021 draft class. The direction seems to be clear with this class. Charlotte get’s a high upside go-to scorer who has the potential to be LaMelo Ball’s co-star. An elite athletic center, who if he pans out, can be the center of the future, and two second-rounders in Thor and Lewis who have excel on the defensive end.

It also needs to be noted that this is a class that will need patience as it’s highly unlikely that any of these guys will get into Charlotte and be an immediate starter, they may not even get heavy minutes until late into the new season.

The future however is bright for the Hornets and it seems like everyone in the Charlotte fan base got a player they wanted and can walk away feeling like they may have just won the draft. Free agency is up next and Charlotte has a decent amount of cap space to work with as they continue to build out their roster.
