Lewis will not be a key part of the Hornets offensive system, there are some areas of improvement that need to happen.

Lewis was not known as an offensive prospect during his college evaluation by the scouts but he has some areas that are important to underline. Don’t expect many touches for him in his first year with the Hornets, a player like Lewis is usually on the perimeter waiting for the ball after a drive and kick by the ball handler.

Due to this, his shooting needs to be consistent if he wants to get a fair amount of minutes. Per Bart Torvik, Lewis attempted 105 threes during his two years at Florida converting them at a 34% clip. These numbers are not special and there is some concern about his shooting projection. As he transitions to the NBA this should be his first area of work. His free throw percentage of 75% on 139 attempts during his two years could be a good sign that he can develop as a more consistent shooter. If he can clean up his footwork and mechanics he can be a good teammate to have close to the arc for LaMelo Ball and the other ballhandlers.

A lot of his success shooting the ball is also related to his overall attitude. Confidence is the key for shooters and a lot of times he seemed reluctant to let it fly when open. Head coach James Borrego said at the summer league press conference that Lewis is, hitting more shots than he anticipatedwhich is a good sign from him.

During his Florida years, Lewis was not great and consistent in handling the ball to create something for himself or his teammates. The main reason for this is probably because his handles are not that great at the moment. Lewis had problems when driving in crowded spaces that require a much tighter handle. Asking him to provide this type of play could be a lot but this is an area of his game that needs to be refined so he doesn’t damage the Hornets’ offensive system.
