Charlotte Hornets: What James Borrego should work on with each drafted player
Kai Jones’ area of improvement: Decision-Making and Perimeter Shooting
Jones is very much a work in progress but he showed brilliant flashes of his athletic ability throughout the summer league. Jones showed off his high-flying athleticism, his ability to run the floor, and his unique ability to grab and run the break as a big. However, Jones need needs some fine-tuning and development all around the court.
The biggest area of work for Jones is his feel for the game and decision-making. Jones needs to learn how to play with pace and read the floor. Throughout the Summer League, he would push the break and turn it over or force shots around the rim. He also would get caught underneath the basket and try to force contested layups.
Another area Borrego should focus on in Jones’ development is his jump shot. While at Texas, Jones only took a career 1.1 three-point attempts per game, so more refinement and reps are needed in that area of his game. Since he is a faceup big, having a consistent jumper will be necessary for him to remain a consistent threat in the half-court. Overall, the more reps, the better for Jones. The G League is the perfect situation for him to grow and develop in multiple facets of his game.
