Charlotte Hornets: 4 centers still available if depth is needed
By Jason Huber
Harry Giles, age 23
Once a five-star recruit and the No. 1 prospect coming out of high school, the trajectory of Harry Giles‘ career hasn’t gone very smoothly.
Giles underwent knee surgery before his freshman year at Duke, struggled when he returned, and then declared for the 2017 NBA draft, sliding all the way to the 20th pick by the Sacramento Kings.
Giles made his NBA debut in 2018 and in three seasons has only managed to average 5.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 12.9 minutes per game. He signed with the Portland Trail Blazers last season and appeared in 38 games, averaging a mere 2.8 points and 3.5 rebounds.
It seems like even at such a young age, Giles’ NBA career is on the ropes and his home state of North Carolina could be a good place to get it back on track if they’re willing to take the risk.
Giles could even be a guy that Charlotte stashes in the G-League to continue his development and call up when needed.
There is upside but it might not be any more than what Vernon Carey or Nick Richards currently brings to Charlotte.
