The Charlotte Hornets are one of the more interesting cases around the league. They don’t quite have a contender (yet), but do have a young star in LaMelo Ball, a very good veteran forward in Gordon Hayward, and lots of complementary pieces around those guys.

Charlotte Hornets: 2 trades for 76ers’ Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons is an interesting case, as it looks as though he is going to be traded by the Philadelphia 76ers by the time the season begins. He is 24 years old, has four years left on his contract, and has already made three All-Star appearances. It isn’t often that a player of that caliber comes available via trade, and the Hornets should be all over it.

Ben Simmons is an interesting case study about both how general NBA teams view his value and how much the Philadelphia 76ers believe he is worth in trades. Whether he is dealt could totally come down to if a healthy medium is reached between the 76ers and another team – which very well could be the Hornets.

Charlotte has not really been mentioned in trade rumors for Simmons, but he makes sense as someone that can come in, change roles offensively, and play elite-level defense every game. He’s clearly talented and would bring a lot to Charlotte – but he does have flaws at both the free throw line and in the half-court offense.

Additionally, the Charlotte Hornets have lots of assets to make a Ben Simmons trade happen. They have most of their future picks and several players still on rookie contracts. That puts them in a unique situation salary-wise.
