Cody Martin, 25 years old

The Hornets waived Caleb Martin this offseason and there’s a chance that his twin brother, Cody, could be next. The Hornets drafted Cody Martin with the 36th overall pick in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Martin knows his role, he’s an energy player off the bench who’s going to play at 110% every time he steps on the court. He’s proven to be admirable on defense and has gained head coach James Borrego’s trust in stints during the past two years.

However, due to the additions this season Martin is on thin ice. The signing of Oubre will see Martin’s minutes depleted, and Iwundu looks to be direct competition for the twin. The Hornets staff will be hoping Martin brings some improvement to the offensive end of the floor this year.

During his career, Martin is averaging just 4.5 points and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 27.6% from three-point range. He’s not bringing a whole lot to that end of the floor and if he wants to continue his career on the Hornets he will need to show some drastic improvements in this area.

The increased competition on the wing doesn’t favor Martin this year, but I would still be surprised to see him be cut with the likes of Richards and Carey still on the team. If Charlotte chooses to dip into the buyout market this year, Martin’s name could be the first on the list of players to waive as they look to add a roster spot.
