Charlotte Hornets: Ball, Hayward and Rozier ranked in SI’s top 100
Rozier ranked #78 in SI’s Rankings
After a season of career highs in points per game (20.4), steals per game (1.3) and assists per game (4.2), Rozier comes in at No. 78. According to Stat-Muse, Rozier also had shooting splits of 50-40-80 in the clutch, which made him the only player to do so with 55+ field goal attempts. Rozier also shot a career-best 51.2% from 2-point field goals, which was about eight percent higher than last season’s mark, according to Basketball-Reference. Overall, this past season was Rozier’s best offensively.
Some questionable players ranked ahead of Rozier are the following: Dejounte Murray (No. 73), Joe Harris (#72), Joe Ingles (No. 68), Aaron Gordon (No. 63), and DeAndre Hunter (No. 56).
In comparison to Dejounte Murray, Rozier is a lot more polished offensively. He is a lot better at shooting the ball off-the-catch or off-the-dribble and has more creativity as a ball-handler to create space as a scorer. Murray is better defensively and offers more size at the guard spot, but Rozier’s overall offensive arsenal trumps Murray and his defensive skillset.
Joe Harris being ranked ahead of Rozier was surprising as well. Harris is an elite shooter but doesn’t offer much else to his game. Harris is definitely at better shooting than Rozier, but Rozier is a very good shooter in his own right and shot 43% from three in catch-and-shoot situations this past season (NBA.com). Besides that area of the game, Rozier is more athletic, is a better shot-creator, and can score from all three levels compared to Harris who is just a shooting specialist offensively from three and mid-range off screens.
Joe Ingles was the most surprising player to be ranked higher than Rozier. The only area of Ingles game that is clearly better than Rozier’s is playmaking. Rozier is better as a scorer and athlete compared to Ingles.
