3 Takeaways from Charlotte Hornets win vs. Cleveland: Charlotte isn’t THAT bad on defense

I’m not even sure I necessarily believe this, but the Hornets don’t appear to be that bad on defense.

It’s unorthodox and very chaotic, but when they need to get stops this team can get the job done. It’s not consistent, but the squad seems much more engaged than last season when they need a stop. LaMelo Ball’s ability to read passing lanes and intercept passes has been crucial in Charlotte getting the lead in the first two games.

Martin, Bridges, and Oubre are all adequate defensive players as well. They aren’t elite, maybe not even good if we’re being honest, but if they’re locked in and on the court together, they play good team basketball and can force stops to create an opportunity on the offensive end of the court.

Interior defense is still a massive problem and will be until either a trade is made or someone is signed next offseason. Until then, I’ll just be numb to it.
