LaMelo Ball is proving to be a superstar for the Charlotte Hornets early in his second NBA season. He has been incredible as a passer and scorer, while also proving he has value defensively.

Charlotte Hornets: LaMelo Ball is becoming a superstar

While there has only been two games – so take this figure with a grain of salt – LaMelo Ball is averaging 24 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.5 turnovers per game – all on shooting splits of 54/67/100.

LaMelo Ball looks as though he’s taking the so-called ‘leap’ into superstardom – and doing so at the ripe age of 20 years old. When on the court, he has been the Charlotte Hornets best player – and it isn’t even close.

The Charlotte Hornets have not had a superstar on their team… arguably ever. Kemba Walker finished third team All-NBA in 2018-19 – but before that there was Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning – neither of which achieved the status of being a top-10-ish player in the NBA while on the Hornets.

LaMelo Ball could be forging a path to do exactly that, though, and he recently affirmed his commitment to the team and its future.

LaMelo Ball has all the ingredients to becoming an NBA superstar – the talent offensively, the fame, and the promise/potential to become even better. And it looks as though it’s happening right in front of us – game by game.

The Charlotte Hornets are going to have to continue to build around Ball – but this year’s squad looks as though it is going to complement him well. There are two major half-court shot makers in Terry Rozier and Gordon Hayward, interesting frontcourt pieces with Miles Bridges, PJ Washington, and Kelly Oubre, and several young pieces that could eventually get run with James Bouknight and Kai Jones.

The Charlotte Hornets have not been this exciting to watch since… possibly ever – and their two comeback wins against the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers to open the season cemented that.

The Hornets are going to be a team to watch – both for enjoyment and in the playoff race – and there’s a possibility that LaMelo Ball progressing this much pushes the Hornets’ trajectory even higher.
