Miles Bridges has been drastically improved – and one of the best players in the NBA so far this season for the Charlotte Hornets. His contract situation is one of the most unique in the NBA, and it’ll be a major talking point as the season goes along.

Charlotte Hornets: What is the Miles Bridges extension going to look like?

The Charlotte Hornets have a lot of future money tied up already with Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier both on the books for at least the next three seasons. However, after this year, presumably, there will be a third player taking up a massive amount of salary cap space: Miles Bridges.

You see, Miles Bridges hasn’t just been good – he’s legitimately been an All-Star so far this season, averaging 27 points per game on shooting splits of 53/40/91. (Those are MVP-caliber numbers, though I wouldn’t expect Bridges to maintain that level of play).

Bridges has seen unbelievable development this season – and it was at least somewhat surprising that he was not extended prior to the season beginning.

Now, though, there is little to no debate as to how much Bridges is going to be making next season. It’s going to be a max contract – whether it be from the Hornets offering him the deal or another team signing Bridges to an offer sheet.

It’s both a good and bad thing – having the possible opportunity to lock Bridges up prior to his breakout year – but also finding a long-term star within your roster – it looks as though the Hornets’ future direction has changed drastically because of Bridges play (assuming he plays at a relatively high level the rest of the year).

Again, there’s no telling whether Bridges’ current play is sustainable, but he’s had as many 30-point games this season as he did his entire career prior to this year – and that does not seem as though it will be a fluke – especially for an uber-athletic 23-year-old forward.
