3 reasons you should be a Charlotte Hornets fan
Reason #3 – The Hornets are one of the most uniquely built teams in the NBA.
Nowadays, it’s difficult to find an NBA team that has been successful in the process of long-term player development and drafting solid players. The Charlotte Hornets have done exactly that, though.
After hiring head coach James Borrego and general manager Mitch Kupchak, the Hornets have yet to miss on one of their first round picks. Since those two arrived, the team has selected Miles Bridges, PJ Washington, LaMelo Ball, and two others in the first round – while also landing solid rotational players such as Devonte’ Graham (who has since left the team), Cody Martin, and Jalen McDaniels.
That’s a lot of young talent in a short amount of time – and the Hornets have not missed on any major draft selections.
In addition to that, general manager Mitch Kupchak is widely known as one of the few NBA general managers that does not tamper in free agency – meaning he actually waits to sign players until the period opens up.
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN once detailed Kupchak’s approach to free agency:
"“Said one player agent, who has dealt with Kupchak on several contracts, ‘He’s the only GM in the league who won’t engage at all before 9:01 p.m. [PT] on the first night of free agency. Then when he calls to express interest, there’s no stickiness to it.’”"
The Hornets are a fun, entertaining team that has star power and respectable leadership. There’s not much that isn’t to like about this team. You should be paying attention, if you aren’t already.
