The Charlotte Hornets play the Los Angeles Lakers tonight in the Staples Center at 10:30 PM Eastern. The Lakers, 5-5, will be without superstar LeBron James and may also be without Anthony Davis, as well.

The Lakers basically overhauled their roster this past offseason, adding Russell Westbrook in a massive trade. The Lakers also signed former Hornets draft pick Malik Monk in free agency, in addition to Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard.

Storylines in Charlotte Hornets at Los Angeles Lakers

The Charlotte Hornets have struggled recently – like, a lot – especially defensively. Whether this will continue against the Lakers could be a question of health. Mason Plumlee was questionable for last night’s game but was able to go, it’s not known whether he’ll play on the second-half of tonight’s back-to-back.

Malik Monk is playing against the Hornets for the first time since signing with the Lakers. Naturally, that means he is going to drop 50 points. Monk is averaging seven points, two rebounds, and two assists in 20 minutes per game on 38-percent shooting.

Last season, LaMelo Ball injured his wrist in the away game against the Lakers. He’s struggled late in games this season – and was at least partly responsible for giving up a 20-plus point run last night against the LA Clippers.
