Charlotte Hornets: 3 reasons to upgrade the center position
The once-promising 5-2 Charlotte Hornets team of not so long ago has left the hive. Since its hot start to the 2022 season, the Hornets have lost five straight games and find themselves two games under .500.
This cold stretch of basketball has been caused by a variety of issues. Poor defense, bad starts, bad finishes, and poor performances from key players are just some of the struggles Charlotte has faced on this losing streak.
One issue in particular has stood out: the problems at center. It has been a problem this team faced for years and every offseason it has gone unaddressed.
Some moves were made, trading for Mason Plumlee and drafting a pair of centers in consecutive drafts was an attempt to upgrade the position. However, neither of these moves gives the Hornets a center you would want starting for a playoff team.
If the Hornets want to make the playoffs, like everyone in the organization says they do, then they need to make a move to upgrade at the center spot, sooner rather than later.
The Hornets do not need to bring in a superstar center and I am not advocating for any particular player here, but something needs to be done to add talent to the position.
Making a move to upgrade the position makes sense for a number of reasons. In this article, we will examine three of those reasons.
