The Charlotte Hornets beat the New York Knicks on Friday night by a score of 104-96, coming back from a hefty first half deficit – carried by the performances of LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and Gordon Hayward.

The return of Kemba Walker to the Queen City was a notable one – he could not miss in the first quarter, tallying 17 points on several made threes. The Hornets eventually changed things up defensively, having a solid performance on that end of the floor tonight.

Charlotte Hornets takeaways: LaMelo Ball is the Hornets best player, even when he’s having an off shooting night.

LaMelo Ball was everywhere for the Hornets on Friday, grabbing 17 rebounds and dishing nine assists. Though he only had 12 points, Ball consistently made plays when the Hornets needed it the most. He also finished the night with five steals – and was legitimately good defensively tonight.

LaMelo Ball, just 20, is the Hornets’ best player this season – he’s a unique talent as a 6-foot-8 point guard that has elite athleticism and ball-handling in addition to providing value elsewhere in his game.

Charlotte Hornets takeaways: Gordon Hayward is worth every penny of his contract.

Gordon Hayward was one of the more inconsistent players on the Hornets to begin this season, but he has recently come alive – and been the half-court threat that Charlotte has needed him to be. Tonight, Hayward finished with 22 points (17 shots), five rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.

Hayward, though maybe not the brightest star against the Knicks, is invaluable to this Hornets team, and they would not have won this game without him.

Charlotte Hornets takeaways: Miles Bridges owned Julius Randle.

Miles Bridges had a phenomenal game – particularly in the second half – matched up across from the Knicks’ Julius Randle. Bridges finished with 24 points, four rebounds, and four assists in comparison to Randle’s ten points (on 15 shots), eight rebounds, and five assists.

Bridges has grown tremendously this season, and is well on his way to earning a massive contract this offseason, likely with the Charlotte Hornets.
