Charlotte Hornets: James Wiseman trade could be the long-term solution at center

I want to make one thing evidently clear before I go further in detail on this trade: PJ Washington is a better player than James Wiseman currently – and by more than an insignificant margin. This deal would be predicated upon the Hornets betting on their player development staff.

The Charlotte Hornets need a center – and doing this trade to acquire Wiseman would be a pretty large bet. PJ Washington can help the Warriors much more than Wiseman can – and with a championship window presumably open once again for Golden State, perhaps they go all-in on their core to win a final championship with Steph Curry.

The Hornets would be moving Washington after Miles Bridges began his breakout year, and would have a true seven-footer. Now, Wiseman isn’t exactly a finished product. He was not great defensively last season – but most rookie centers aren’t – and he showed flashes of being a floor spacer and great rim protector – something the Hornets could really use in the long term.

Another minor note: The Warriors are pretty far above the luxury tax, and this deal would cut down that bill by a few million dollars.
