Three Things Charlotte Hornets fans should be thankful for: a high excitement factor
Sports is defined as “an activity … in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” Thankfully for fans, few teams are more entertaining than the Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte was recently ranked as the 5th-most fun team to watch, behind only the star-studded Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. LaMelo Ball is one of the brightest young stars in the league, combining a flair for the dramatic with his penchant for passing to create basketball artistry on a nightly basis. Miles Bridges has become widely known for his high-flying theatrics, including his recent ferocious windmill finish against the New York Knicks. Beyond Ball and Bridges, players such as Kelly Oubre, Gordon Hayward, and Terry Rozier all have the offensive arsenal to light it up on any given night. With the on-court excitement as well as the timeless purple and teal color scheme and some of the best jerseys in the NBA, the Hornets are must-see television.
It would be remiss to not mention fan-favorite Eric Collins, the electric play-by-play announcer for the Hornets. Known as simply “the Hornets announcer” outside of Charlotte circles, Collins clearly understands the importance of the enthusiasm and energy that his role brings. With a team as exciting as the Hornets, it is appropriate that the play-by-play be equally as exciting, and Collins fills this role perfectly.
Fans in the Queen City are doing their part in creating an exciting atmosphere at the Spectrum Center for home games. Charlotte is currently averaging 16,451 fans per contest, good for 15th in the league. In comparison, the Hornets were tied for 28th in attendance during the 2019-20 season (data was skewed for the 2020-21 season due to Covid-related attendance restrictions). With 33 home games yet to play, the Hornets faithful can continue to contribute to the collective buzz around the team.
