Hornets trade deadline: 3. The “All In” Trades

Sometimes the risky, blockbuster, all-in type trades set a franchise back five years, and sometimes– like for Toronto in 2019– they win you a championship.

The Hornets have two franchise cornerstones in LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges. They’re both young, and getting better seemingly every game. A slow rebuild can work– just look at Milwaukee’s championship last season, but why not expedite the process, and bring in players who can help the Hornets compete at the highest level, right now?

There isn’t much more to be said about Ben Simmons that hasn’t been said already. But a Ball, Bridges, Simmons core would be a behemoth in a couple of years. That’s all!

Charlotte gets one of the smoothest scorers in the NBA in Bradley Beal. Washington, in return, gets young talent, a consistent bucket in Rozier, and picks to jump-start their rebuild.

Woah, things escalated quickly in these mock trades! With less than a week until the deadline, the phones of GM’s around the NBA are surely starting to heat up. If the Hornets are to make moves, they should do it with a specific goal in mind.

Avoiding the trap of making a trade simply because other competitive teams are making trades is imperative– that can hurt a franchise, and teams do it every single deadline.

Regardless of what moves the Hornets make– or don’t make–, they are finally part of the actual conversation, which is a departure from years past. If Mitch Kupchak, Michael Jordan, and the rest of the Hornets front office ultimately decide to make a move, it may be a real earthquake, instead of the tiny convulsions that Hornets fans have gotten used to.
