The Charlotte Hornets closed out their three-game road trip with a loss at the hands of the Miami Heat. Playing without head coach Erik Spoelstra (health and safety protocols) and starting point guard Kyle Lowry (rest), Miami had the best three-point shooting performance of any Hornets opponent this season. NBA Sixth Man of the Year frontrunner Tyler Herro led the way for Miami with a regular-season career high 35 points.

Miles Bridges led the way for Charlotte with 29 points, marking his sixth consecutive game with at least 20 points. With Gordon Hayward being a late addition to the injury report, Jalen McDaniels was called upon to play a larger role. McDaniels responded with 11 points in 17 minutes, providing his best performance since returning from an ankle injury. In a somewhat surprising move, the Hornets did not play Montrezl Harrell tonight, as Charlotte went with a 9-man rotation until the final minutes of the game.

Charlotte led by ten points less than three minutes into the game and trailed by just five points entering the 4th quarter. However, Miami would outscore Charlotte 42-18 in the 4th quarter, marking the second-worst point differential in a quarter for the Hornets this season. A 13-0 run early in the final period set the tone as the Hornets would never be within single digits from the 10:26 mark of the fourth quarter until the end of the game.

The Hornets will be back in action on Thursday night as they welcome the Orlando Magic to town. Orlando broke a six-game skid with a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night and picked up a win on their last trip to Charlotte. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM for Charlotte’s penultimate home contest of the season.
