Charlotte Hornets: The Gordon Hayward Situation 2022 Offseason
By Nick Grasso
Or…the Hornets could look to trade Hayward either in a package deal or by himself. Suns center Deandre Ayton is likely finished in Phoenix, and the Hornets would surely benefit from the big man’s talents, but a trade including Hayward and Ayton would likely need to include a third team or picks and other pieces.
Pistons wild card Jerami Grant has been on the trading block for a while now, and his decreased trade value may validate a Hayward-for-Grant trade.
Perhaps the biggest name on the trade block right now, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert could be on the move this offseason. Could the Hornets package a deal around Gobert that includes Hayward landing back in Salt Lake City?
The pros and cons are there for keeping or moving on from Hayward, yet the questions about his future remain. The Hornets have options for the aging forward in what is sure to be an active and exciting NBA offseason, but only time will tell where the former all-star ends up.
