This news comes at an incredibly poor time for both Harrell and the Hornets. Harrell, 28, is set to become an unrestricted free agent in less than a month. With this upcoming legal battle swirling around him, the chances that he gets re-signed by the Hornets (or any team for that matter) just became very slim.

Although he is a former Sixth Man of the Year, Harrell is long removed from his prime in the NBA. He averaged 13.1 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game in 23.1 minutes per game last season for the Hornets and Wizards. While those numbers are slightly higher than his career averages, they are a far cry from the 18.6 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game that he put up during his award-winning 2019-20 campaign.

As this story develops, we will bring more updates. For now, Harrell is set to become an unrestricted free agent, which may be the best news Charlotte fans have heard all week.
