The Charlotte Hornets are in the headlines once again! Despite agreeing in principle on a deal to become Charlotte’s next head coach, Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson is reportedly backing out of the deal.

Atkinson is fresh off of a championship victory with Golden State. This could have something to do with the reverse in decision. As a first-year assistant with the Warriors, Atkinson won his first championship on the sidelines.

With the Warriors primed to make a couple more championship runs in the coming seasons, Atkinson may want to remain on the sidelines of a win-now roster. That is something Charlotte cannot offer him at the moment.

While Atkinson has had success developing young talent into proven winners, his age (55) and incredibly recent success with the Warriors likely factored into his head coaching decision.

With less than a week before the NBA Draft, LaMelo Ball and the Hornets are coachless once again. This could be a rough offseason, Hornets fans.

As more details are reported, we will update this story further.
