PJ Dozier

PJ Dozier is yet another player coming off injury who could be available at a bargain rate for the Hornets. Charlotte would do well to add a true backup point guard behind LaMelo Ball, and with Isaiah Thomas’ roster status an uncertainty, Dozier could be a realistic target. Dozier’s best season came with the Denver Nuggets in 2019-20, when he averaged 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists across 50 games.

Dozier unfortunately suffered a torn ACL in November of 2021 and was later traded to the Boston Celtics. He was then traded to the Orlando Magic who proceeded to waive him after the deal. If he is able to successfully recover from his injury, Dozier could provide a competent if unspectacular option for guard depth in Charlotte. His 6″6′ frame and 6″11′ wingspan could also be welcome additions for a Hornets team looking to improve its perimeter defense.

A native of nearby Columbia, South Carolina, Dozier has a Hornets connection already; his uncle, Terry Dozier, played for Charlotte during the 1989-90 season. Dozier could relish the opportunity to play for the franchise closest to his hometown and nearest to the University of South Carolina, who Dozier helped lead to the Final Four in 2017.
