Mark Williams

Age: 20

College: Duke

Position: C

Height: 7-0

Weight: 242 lbs.

2021-22 Stats (Duke): 11.2 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 2.8 BPG, 72.1 FG%

The Hornets drafted Mark Williams for his elite rim protection and his finishing around the basket. Defensively, Williams ranked in the 89th percentile in defending the paint and in the 91st percentile in guarding post players. He will bring a defensive presence that the Hornets do not currently possess, and he projects as a great fit in Steve Clifford’s defensive system.

Offensively, Williams will be a great lob threat for LaMelo Ball and will feed off rim runs and put backs. However, the Summer League will be an environment where we should see more of Williams’ skillset. In Duke’s system, Williams was strictly a rim-runner and lob-catcher. Areas of emphasis for Williams will be showing he can defend on the perimeter and displaying more skill on offensive, whether that is through perimeter shooting or scoring in the post.
