Which free agents could the Hornets target to fill their backup point guard role?

After the conclusion of the summer league, the Charlotte Hornets still have a hole on their roster. That hole is the backup point guard position.

The only true point guards on the roster at this time are LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier. Ball and Rozier are both in the starting lineup based on last season and will most likely continue to start.

If the team played a game today, the Hornets could utilize Cody Martin or James Bouknight as the backup point guard. Martin and Bouknight are not long-term solutions for this role and wouldn’t benefit individually from being utilized that way.

Like most of the NBA, the Hornets don’t have much cap space, and the market for point guards is pretty thin at this point. Luckily, the remaining free agent point guards are not going to break the bank in terms of salary cap. The team should look into signing or acquiring a point guard that can come in and do a solid job of running the offense while Ball and Rozier rest.
