The Charlotte Hornets have officially released their schedule for the 2022-2023 season.

The season will tip off in Texas where the Hornets will match up against the San Antonio Spurs. Charlotte has won the last three matchups between these two teams, their longest winning streak in the history of the series. They have also won two consecutive games in San Antonio, as Gordon Hayward has led Charlotte in scoring in both games. Charlotte will be looking for their second consecutive season-opening victory and will look to improve their 12-20 record in such games.

The Hornets will play their home opener on Friday, October 21st when the New Orleans Pelicans visit the Spectrum Center. The Pelicans are hoping to build on the momentum of a surprise playoff push last season and will be adding phenom forward Zion Williamson back to their rotation this season. The matchup in Charlotte will be a homecoming of sorts for Williamson, who was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, played high school basketball in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and played college basketball in Durham, North Carolina. Charlotte is one of just three NBA cities that Williamson has yet to play in, along with Philadelphia and Toronto (Williamson did play against the Raptors in Tampa, Florida when the Raptors temporarily relocated there for the 2020-2021 season).

Charlotte’s own Stephen Curry and the defending champion Golden State Warriors will make their annual visit to Charlotte on Saturday, October 29th. Beyond the normal excitement that Curry and the Warriors bring, this season’s matchup will have an added layer of intrigue with Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson having spurned the Hornets this offseason after reportedly agreeing to become Charlotte’s head coach.

Charlotte will also host a Monday matinee on Martin Luther King Jr. Day when the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics visit town on January 16th.

The Hornets will appear on national television on three occasions this season, the first of which comes on Wednesday, November 2nd when they visit Chicago to take on the Bulls. Charlotte will appear on national television again when they host the Bulls on Thursday, January 26th before making their final national television appearance on Friday, February 10th when they take on the Celtics in Boston.

Charlotte will play 12 back-to-back sets this season, tied for the fewest in the league. It is a welcome change from last season, when they went 2-13 in the second game of their 15 back-to-back sets.

Single-game tickets will go on sale on Friday, August 19th at 10 am and can be found at www.nba.com/hornets/tickets.
