Top 5 Point Guards in Charlotte Hornets history
Baron Davis (1999-2002)
Baron Davis is a player who would likely rank higher on this list if the totality of his career were being considered; however, he played just three seasons in Charlotte and was a starter for only two seasons.
Nonetheless, Davis still managed to make an impact in his short time in Charlotte, as the team made the playoffs each year from 2000-2002, including consecutive second round appearances in 2001 and 2002 after Davis was elevated to the starting lineup. The 2002 Hornets still hold the distinction of having gone the furthest in the playoffs of any Charlotte team, as the fell in seven games in their second round series against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Davis improved his scoring output each season, going from Charlotte’s ninth-leading scorer in his rookie campaign to their third-leading scorer in 2001 and their second-leading scorer in 2002. He also provided tenacious defense; he still holds the two highest steals totals by a Charlotte point guard in a season and the greatest number of blocks in a season by a Charlotte point guard.
Davis holds the distinction of being the final player from the first iteration of the Charlotte Hornets franchise to be named an All-Star, as he was named an injury replacement for Vince Carter in 2002.
Although he was never a terrific three-point shooter, Davis did manage to convert the longest shot in NBA history while with Charlotte when he converted on an 89-foot heave against the Milwaukee Bucks in 2001.
