Miles Bridges appeared in court in Los Angeles County today for his preliminary hearing as a result of his arrest on felony domestic violence charges earlier this offseason. Now more than three months removed from Bridges’ initial arrest, today’s appearance was intended to corroborate evidence and determine whether substantial evidence existed to take the case to trial.

The result of today’s appearance was a continuation of the hearing, meaning that Bridges will be back in court on Friday, September 16th.

The Legal Information Institute, a service of Cornell Law School, defines continuance as “what a court may grant to delay proceedings until a later date”.

Such a decision is often made when more information is needed to make a decision on whether or not a trial is necessary; for example, is relevant evidence is found or additional witnesses are deemed necessary.

What’s next for Miles Bridges?

Today’s development does not change the overall trajectory of this case, but it does create another waiting period until Bridges’ next court appearance. The legal system is not designed to give quick answers to serious cases such as domestic violence, meaning that it will likely be a while until a final resolution is reached.
