Greensboro Swarm acquire two new players
The Greensboro Swarm made some noise on Friday afternoon when they announced a trade with the Iowa Wolves. Tyler Cook and Vincent Edwards are now the newest members of the Charlotte Hornets‘ G-League affiliate, while D.J. Carton and Keandre Cook will be making the move from Greensboro to Des Moines.
Tyler Cook has appeared in 65 games at the NBA level between stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, and Chicago Bulls. A product of St. Louis, Missouri by way of the University of Iowa, Cook was high school teammates with Jayson Tatum. After originally going undrafted in 2019, he eventually earned All-NBA G League Third Team honors in the 2020-21 season while with Iowa. His best performance at the NBA level came with the Pistons on May 14th, 2021, when he scored 17 points to go along with five rebounds in a loss to the Nuggets.
Edwards began his career with the Houston Rockets before having stints with various G League teams. He won a G League championship as a member of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2019. His lone two stints at the NBA level came in the 2018-19 season while with the Rockets.
Carton, meanwhile, while be returning to the same state where he played his high school basketball. After attending high school in Bettendorf, Iowa, Carton went on to play at both Ohio State and Marquette before going undrafted in 2021. He will now continue his career roughly two and a half hours west of where he played his high school basketball. Carton averaged 9.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 32 appearances for the Swarm last season.
Keandre Cook began his collegiate career at the junior college level with Odessa College, the same school where Hornets legend Larry Johnson began his collegiate career. After two seasons with Odessa, Cook transferred to Missouri State, eventually earning Second Team All-MVC honors in 2020. After going undrafted that year, he signed with the Hornets and participated in the G League single-site in 2021. He spent last season playing professionally in Hungary.
