Cody Martin is one of the most underappreciated Charlotte Hornets players.

Cody Martin was touted as a tenacious defender in college, taking home the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2018-19. He has good size for a guard and possesses solid defensive instrincs. These traits led the Hornets to draft Martin with the 36th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Martin’s obvious strength is defense, where he can guard oppossing point guards, shooting guards, small forwards and even power forwards on occassion. He has great instincts, solid intangibles and always gives it his all when he is on the floor.

Martin has proved to be a solid value pick and was rewarded when he signed a four-year, $32 million deal to remain in Charlotte this offseason. Martin will continue to be a heavy contributor off the bench for as long as he is with the team. It will be interesting to see if Martin takes another step in his improvement this season.
