Whistle Sports Network recently released a new series in partnership with Pixellot called “My First Coach”, hosted by Dell Curry. The series tells the story of the world’s most famous athletes through the eyes of their former professional athlete parents.

Before Stephen Curry was becoming the all-time leader in three-pointers made and before Seth Curry was becoming the leader in career three-point percentage amongst active players, Dell Curry was teaching his sons the fundamentals of basketball as their first coach.

Steph was born in March of 1998, during Dell’s final season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Dell would be selected by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1998 expansion draft, bringing the Curry family to the Queen City. It was there that Seth would be born in August of 1990, ahead of Dell’s third season with the Hornets.

By the time Dell retired following the 2001-02 season, Steph was 14 years old, and Seth was 11 years old. This allowed Dell to coach both of his sons during their high school careers at Charlotte Christian School.

When asked about the one piece of advice he gives to parents with children playing sports, Curry said that filming and documenting their children’s performance would be extremely helpful. Thankfully, parents in 2022 have access to far more advanced technology than parents in 2002 had access to.

Pixellot, a sports filming and production company, provided the exact types of technology that Curry recommends parents use. Pixellot provides video that is automated with artificial intelligence, while also provided analytics that are specifically geared towards use for sports.
