Charlotte Hornets lose sixth straight game, fall to Portland Trail Blazers

The Charlotte Hornets saw their recent run of losses continue on Wednesday night, falling to the visiting Portland Trail Blazers by a final score of 105-95.

Terry Rozier led the hometown Hornets with 18 points, while Damian Lillard carried the Trail Blazers with 26 points.

With the loss, Charlotte is now 3-9 on the season.

What went right for the Charlotte Hornets?

Offensive rebounding

The Hornets grabbed 20 offensive rebounds compared to just eight for the Trail Blazers. Charlotte’s 20 offensive boards is their most in a game this season and is the fifth-most by any team in a game this season.

Mason Plumlee grabbed five offensive rebounds, adding to his season total of 37, which ties him for sixth-most in the NBA.

Limiting turnovers

The Hornets had just 11 turnovers, beneath their season average of 15 and good for their third fewest in a game this year. No Hornets player had more than two turnovers.

What went wrong for the Charlotte Hornets?

Third quarter woes continue

Charlotte entered tonight’s game with a negative 36 third quarter point differential, the fifth-worst mark in the league. That number now sits at negative 38 and is now the fourth-worst mark in the league after Portland outscored Charlotte by a 38-36 margin in tonight’s third quarter.

Trailing 60-56 just one minute into the third quarter, Charlotte went on a 16-0 run to take a 72-60 lead. However, they would be outscored by a 26-7 margin the rest of the way and found themselves trailing by seven entering the fourth quarter.

Three-point shooting issues

The Hornets attempted 40 three-pointers, their second-most in a game this season. However, they shot just 25.0% from three-point range, their third-worst mark in a game this season.

Kelly Oubre Jr. had a particularly rough night from beyond the arc, shooting just 9.1% (1/11), his new season low.
