The Charlotte Hornets saw their losing streak reach seven games on Thursday night, falling by a final score of 112-107 to the Miami Heat in overtime.

With the loss, the Hornets are now 3-10 on the season.

What went right for the Charlotte Hornets?

Kelly Oubre Jr.’s three-point shooting

Kelly Oubre Jr. set season bests in points (29), three-pointers made (7), and three-point field goal percentage (53.8%). His seven three-pointers made are the most by a Hornet in one game since Oubre Jr. made 10 three-pointers against the Indiana Pacers on January 26th, 2022.

Mason Plumlee’s stat-stuffing night

Mason Plumlee stuffed the stat sheet, posting 13 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists on 4/4 shooting and 5/7 from the free-throw line. He joins Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld as the only players in league history to have multiple performances of at least 10 points, at least 15 rebounds, at least 5 assists, and 100% shooting in a game. In addition to last night, Plumlee also achieved the feat while he was with the Detroit Pistons on April 21st, 2021 against the Dallas Mavericks.

Overtime woes continue

The Hornets dropped yet another overtime game, marking their 11th loss in their last 12 overtime contests. Charlotte has a penchant for finding themselves in overtime games, as they have now been in three overtime contests through their first 13 games of the season, tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Pelicans for the most in the league.

Injury bug bites again

Dennis Smith Jr. exited the overtime period with a left ankle sprain, reaggravating the same injury he suffered against the Brooklyn Nets on November 5th. Charlotte is already thin in the backcourt due to injuries, and if Smith Jr. is forced to miss time, the Hornets could be forced to turn to Théo Maledon and James Bouknight to play extended minutes.
